Mount of Alex

General information

Mount of Alex has been established as a bookshop with atmosphere and charm
to offer clients an experience of the consolidated collection of Andrew
Long that would not otherwise be seen by the public. The bookshop presents
a general selection of high quality books covering a broad range of
eclectic interests, with notable strengths in travel and topography,
exploration, children’s and modern literature.

Andrew Long is an Archaeologist and experienced collector in the field of
antiquarianism. The relocation of his enormous and unique collection of
books and artefacts to Castlemaine is cause for excitement as Andy moves
into his new position as Director of operations at Mount of Alex in Barker
St, Castlemaine…

“I am intrigued by what is considered to be the treasure of the field…and
the Colonial leftovers one finds. I aim to provide an environment for
treasure hunting – quality hardbacks, rare editions, signed copies… and for
the space to become a local venue and destination for cultural and literary
events.”
